Christmas Decorations, First Trip to La Palapa Griega, Art Show, Biscotti and Coffee Party and Birding

Well, our first week here was pretty much a matter of getting settled, getting things like phones and computers to work and getting ready for our friend, Lynne McDougal to come down.  First we did some decorating:

And relaxing

We walked down to the little beach club in our neighborhood, La Palapa Griega, and climbed down the rocks to let Boo play a bit at the beach and then enjoy music by local favorite, Mark Mulligan.

Walking home is a little precarious climbing up the cliff, so
we brought head lamps and made it home in good time, safe
and sound.  I really did have more fun than I look like!
The next night was the art show at our local gallery, featuring two artists.  One did alot of aerial photography of the San Carlos area and the other did photography with an artistic bent-hard to describe.

I loved the black and white cell photo.

The highlight of the week was a lovely biscotti and coffee party given by Norma Nunez (far left).
It was a great mix of Mexican and American ladies.

I joined my first birding outing, which was very successful-I added to my list of birds I saw last year and now have a very full list.

Some of the birders at the Esterito.  There definitely is a "birder look"!
"You've seen them, sheathed in Gore-Tex, their heads thrown back
under black binoculars, foot-long Nikon lenses bouncing off their
replaced hips like billy clubs."  The New Yorker

Smooth as glass this morning.  Lots of herons and pelicans and
a black hawk which excited everyone.

The country club settlement pond.  We saw all kinds of
ducks here.  Particularly adorable were the Scoters and
Buffleheads.

We drove out to the sand flats and saw lots of white and
brown pelicans, cormorants and other assorted wonders.
This is also where the Roseate Spoonbills come later inthe season.

This was at an old abandoned oyster farm.  Check out the Cormorants
lined up in the water on old traps.  They sounded like bull frogs.

Tomorrow, Lynne McDougal arrives.  We are so excited!  Stay tuned.
